With Torrential Force - Banner by AmaranthineRain

DESCRIPTION

"With Torrential Force" is an interactive story game series directed by you, the readers, and produced by me, the author & artist!

You play as Noia who has awoken from a centuries-deep sleep to find someone has stolen Pandora's Jar, an ancient artifact once said to contain all of mankind's misery and now holds only hope locked inside. Humanity is in dire need of some legendary hope after The End Wars left the population and environment practically decimated. However, Noia knows that what is in the jar may not be something people are ready for...

You can manipulate either the advancements in technology or arcane senses to locate the jar.

There are multiple ways to succeed but it is possible to fail and wipe out the rest of humanity. You are not guaranteed a long story or a happy ending. Advanced skills, alliances, and clues will be unlocked depending on your poll votes linked in the comments of each submission.

MECHANICS

Every week there will be an illustrated and written submission here on dA - pending any hiatus used for development.
Not every submission will be a crossroads requiring you to vote.
You will have one to two weeks to vote at crossroads unless otherwise stated. If there is a tie I will give one extension. If we are still tied I will resort to the archaic and very mysterious method of flipping a coin ;) (Wink)
voting is hosted on SurveyMonkey - please go to the corresponding "Crossroads Map & Past Polls" journal linked ahead for the current active poll

**some questions may seem inconsequential but every answer decides something significant - see tracking journal**

I am still figuring out how to best execute this so any delay in starting is due to playing with the interface.

WHAT IS AFFECTED BY VOTING AT CROSSROADS?

storyline progression
unlocked clues
success/failure of the main goal
character personality development
^ and subsequently how other characters will react ^
morals and values
relationships with NPCs

POSSIBLE ENDINGS

You will have a range of endings available depending on your choices in two categories:

Main Goal
successful
undetermined
partially successful
failed

Relationships
romantic
amicable
non romantic
lone wolf
mirror

INTEGRITY OF CHOICES

I give my word not to just manipulate the story out however I prefer it.
In fact the results for the first poll were not what I expected people to lean towards at all!

I outline drafts for each crossroads and after you have made your choice I will reveal them by the time the corresponding story segment and illustration is posted. The alternates will either be in the form of a short blurb or a snapshot sketch of what might have happened.

In addition I will also keep a log of past poll results (see the navigation bar at the top/bottom). The only circumstance where I would override the results of a poll may be for a non-plot related poll.

This is a new storytelling format for me and I'm looking forward to learning from and with you. Come play, adventurists and sleuths!

REVELATION OF ALTERNATE CHOICES/ENDINGS?

Via the outlines mentioned above, yes. As in if the alternates will be fleshed out, that's undecided. If there is enough desire for it at the end of the story I might offer you a chance to 'replay' from a particular section. We'll see.

GAME?

Short answer: Hopefully, yes.
This project was originally intended as practice for a visual novel project which I am very interested in becoming more involved with both developing and producing (hopefully) with a team. If I already knew more about the required interfaces then this would have been released as a game. So, why did I released it now instead of waiting until I knew more about Flash or RenPy? Because I've halted far too many projects that lost steam and died; if I don't do it now it will probably never happen - and I want it to happen. I want to share it with you.

That said, if you do have a visual novel in development and are looking to add a writer/editor and possibly artist to your team please feel free to contact me for a resume or other examples of my work! I would be very interested in the opportunity to work with you.

OTHER FAQs

Why is voting hosted only by SurveyMonkey? Why not also host voting here on deviantArt?
Simple: Double voting. I know some of you lovelies follow me on multiple platforms~

Did you know the acronym of this story is "WTF"? Was that on purpose?
Yes and yes.

Why are you using 3 PoV with present verb tense?
TL;DR: Dears, if I could I've have all submissions in multiple PoVs for your preference and pleasure. Unfortunately, this is not an efficient or fun way to spend our time on this particular project (though it may be an option to try in the future). I chose 3rd person PoV because of the survey results for the pre-planning poll #4 and compromised with present tense because of the arguments everyone gave. As a writing tool this verb tense should help you feel like you are right there beside Noia. At best you'll feel you can put yourself in Noia's place; at worst you may feel as though you are her conscience/spirit guide. :shuffelin:

In regards to pre-planning poll #4 (follow the "Crossroads Map & Past Polls" link in NAVIGATION) for all of you who answered the optional Q2 & Q3 pair you all gave great arguments and here the thing - they are all based on personal opinion. For example: some of you said 2nd person make the reader feel more immersed in the story which was countered with that others don't like being told what they feel about a story. The other half argued that 3rd person leaves more for the imagination which was countered with 2nd person gives the choices more weight as they mean more. Also, did you know it is possible for a reader to feel closer to the character(s) in 3rd person than 1st person depending on how the story is written? As far as player-choice-dependent games I'd argue you feel pretty darn close to Link when you're playing Legend of Zelda, ey? We can sling opinions and facts around all day but if the current PoV is a turn off for you I am sorry you may be choosing not to join us. That said, if you would like to see a story like this in your preferred PoV and tense I encourage you to design your own story with your own characters and your own development; write what you want to read and illustrate what you want to see

What genre is this?
To me it falls into the following fiction sub-groups: adventure, mystery, fantasy, and sci-fi.

If the choices are up to us (the readers) at crossroads, what makes this fun for you, Kiri?
Simple: the foremost benefit is that I will get to interact with you and the community on a more-than-small-talk level. Also, I get to develop my storytelling and illustration skills. This is also geared towards developing otomes. I see many good ones but I'm craving better writing and choice-affected stories - not to mention the option for non-romantic/independent endings.

Question text?
blah blah blah more coming soon blah blah blah
